Bokaro: The Bokaro administration celebrated International Women’s Day with the launch of a week-long ‘Mahila Mahotsav’ at Shibu Soren Smriti Bhavan (Town Hall) on Sunday. The programme featured several events focusing on women’s empowerment, safety and awareness, with participation from senior district officials and women from various sectors.The event began with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp by DC Ajay Nath Jha, SP Harvinder Singh and other officials. District social welfare officer Suman Gupta informed about the history and importance of women’s day, stating that the occasion is meant to promote women’s rights, equality and empowerment.On the occasion, the district administration also flagged off a pink auto awareness rath from the Town Hall premises.“The vehicle will move across different parts of Bokaro to spread information about women’s rights, safety measures and various govt welfare schemes designed for women,” said Jha. Officials said the initiative aims to reach people at the grassroots level and encourage a safer and more supportive environment for women.Addressing the gathering, the SP said that women today are moving ahead confidently in every field, including administration, education, healthcare, sports and business.The DC emphasised the need for a change in social mindset. He said discrimination between sons and daughters must end, and women must be encouraged to take leadership roles in society. Referring to initiatives such as campaigns against child marriage and the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana, he said such schemes are aimed at strengthening women socially and economically.During the programme, several women employees and achievers from different departments were honoured for their outstanding work.
