Bengaluru: A 32-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly snatching chains from shopkeepers and 28 grams of gold ornaments were recovered from him.On Jan 29, a condiments store owner told police a man arrived in a car at night, purchased a cigarette and was smoking while speaking to his friend seated inside the vehicle. He asked for another cigarette a little later. When the shopkeeper handed it over, the accused — later identified as Sharanappa C — allegedly grabbed him by the neck and tried to snatch his gold chain. Though the victim resisted, Sharanappa managed to pull away a portion of the chain and fled the spot.In another incident on Feb 3, a shopkeeper told police two men arrived on a two-wheeler. One of them pretended to purchase an item and suddenly snatched his 24-gram gold mangalya chain before escaping. Police caught Sharanappa on Feb 16 and he confessed to committing the crimes along with an associate. He said he targeted small shops, posing as a customer before snatching chains.
