MAPUSA: A Delhi resident was booked by the Mopa airport police on Saturday after he was caught smoking a ‘beedi’ in the lavatory of an Akasa Air flight. The accused, identified as Ashish Dass, was travelling from Delhi to Goa when the incident occurred.According to the police, the passenger was seated at 11E and had managed to smuggle a lighter past security. Mid-flight, he allegedly retreated to the aircraft lavatory to smoke. The act was promptly detected by the crew, who also recovered the prohibited lighter from his possession.Authorities emphasised that the act posed a severe fire hazard, endangering the lives of fellow passengers and crew members. The Mopa Airport Police have registered an FIR under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life or personal safety, along with Section 3(1)(C) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982. The accused was issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the BNS. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Viraj Sawant.
