Muzaffarpur: Unidentified criminals uprooted and stole an entire SBI ATM on Rewa Road (NH-722) near Madwan under Karja police station area in Muzaffarpur district on Saturday night. The gang not only took the cash but also loaded the ATM machine into a white SUV and fled. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, police said.According to police, the thieves reached the kiosk around midnight and removed the machine completely, allegedly using a vehicle to carry it away. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when locals found the ATM missing and alerted the police. A team from Karja police station reached the spot and began an investigation.“Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits. The exact amount of cash inside the ATM is yet to be confirmed. Verification is being done with bank officials,” said Karja SHO Ramkrishna Paramhans.Muzaffarpur SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra, who also inspected the spot, said the ATM was cut open using a gas cutter and later taken away in an SUV. “A special investigation team (SIT) led by rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar has been formed. Bank officials were also called to verify the stolen cash. It is suspected a large sum has been stolen,” he said.The incident on the Muzaffarpur–Chhapra main road has raised serious questions about night patrolling. Local residents alleged that criminals managed to cut open and lift the ATM on a busy main road without anyone noticing.
