Nagpur: Nagpur rural police last week invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999, against two gangs connected with narcotics sale in separate operations.In the first case, Kanhan police targeted an inter-state syndicate led by Amit Raykwar (34) from Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. On January 7, a joint raid by anti-narcotics action team and Kanhan police near Hanuman Mandir bus stop at Tekadi Udan Pula led to arrest of Raykwar, Jitu Yadav (28), and a third member. Authorities seized 24 kg of ganja (cannabis). Kanhan police prepared the MCOCA proposal which Rural SP Harssh A Poddar sent to special IG Sandip Patil, Nagpur Range.In a parallel action, Butibori police arrested Shubham Dhoble and Jayesh Nagrale (19) on January 25 with 23gm of mephedrone. Probe revealed Dhoble headed a syndicate involved in narcotics sales, theft, robbery, murder attempts, weapons possession. Butibori police, under SP Poddar and addl SP Anil Mhaske, prepared the MCOCA proposal, which was approved by special IG Nagpur Range.
