New Delhi: Leading educational institutions in Delhi are contributing to India’s semiconductor workforce programme under the govt’s Chips to Startups (C2S) initiative, part of the India Semiconductor Mission, as the country prepares to build a larger talent base for the global chip industry.Union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said the programme has expanded semiconductor design training to 315 academic institutions nationwide and will be extended to 500 universities under the Semicon 2.0 phase.Institutions involved in the effort include Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, National Institute of Technology Delhi, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi, Delhi Technological University, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women and Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies. The programme provides students access to electronic design automation tools from companies such as Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens, Renesas, Ansys and AMD to train them in semiconductor chip design. According to the govt, more than 1.8 crore hours of EDA tool usage have been recorded under the initiative. TNN
