Thiruvananthapuram: A 15-year-old girl was found dead in a pond at Maruthathur near Neyyattinkara on Saturday.The deceased was a native of Maruthathur and a student of Marayamuttom Higher Secondary School.Police said the preliminary investigation had found that the death was a case of suicide.However, further investigation was under way to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the incident, police added.According to relatives, the girl was at home until around 10.30am on Saturday. When she could not be found later, family members and neighbours began a search operation in the locality.The girl’s body was later found in a nearby pond, following which locals alerted the police. Police reached the spot and initiated inquest proceedings.The body was initially shifted to Neyyattinkara general hospital and later moved to the govt medical college hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for postmortem examination.Locals said that the girl was known to be a quiet and studious student.Her classmates and teachers were also shocked after hearing about the incident.
