Bhagalpur: Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) has secured a Patent Design Registration Certificate from the patent office, govt of India, for its innovative Motorized Mechanical Palmyra Palm Fruit Pulp Extractor (MMPPFP) under the Designs Act, 2000.The registration recognises the novelty, originality and industrial applicability of the machine and is expected to strengthen BAU’s intellectual property portfolio in agricultural engineering. The technology was developed by a multidisciplinary team of scientists led by BAU vice-chancellor Duniya Ram Singh, along with Sanoj Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Ashish Kumar, Prem Prakash, Md Wasim Siddiqui and Anil Kumar Singh.Singh said the high-capacity motorised solution was developed in response to the limitations of the traditional manual extraction of Borassus flabellifer (palmyra palm) fruit pulp, which is labour-intensive, less hygienic and inefficient, often leading to significant post-harvest losses. The newly developed machine can process up to 50kg of fruit per batch, substantially reducing extraction time while improving pulp recovery efficiency. The system is designed to extract pulp rapidly with minimal manual intervention, reduce fibre contamination, lessen labour drudgery and operational fatigue, and maintain better processing standards, he added.BAU director (research) A K Singh said the machine has been designed for operational efficiency and ergonomic safety while ensuring faster extraction cycles and higher pulp recovery, thereby improving processing economics. The patent registration is also expected to accelerate commercialisation and industry collaboration, he added.
