Frightened, she went to her brother’s house and informed him of the incident.Later, when she returned home with her brother’s son, the accused allegedly threw the acid from the container onto her. This resulted in acid burns on the left side of her face, left arm, and hip. She was taken to Belthangady hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. The woman suffered 10% to 15% burns.Nagalakshmi said that the majority of harassment cases against women take place due to alcoholism, and this needs to be considered very seriously.“I visited the woman and directed the authorities to release adequate compensation to her. The commission already recommended the govt ban liquor in the state. However, the govt did not consider this recommendation,” she said.Choudhary said that the mother of a student acid victim pledged her gold ornaments for her daughter’s 4th surgery. “I directed the DHO and the deputy director of the department of women and child development to ensure that the surgery expenses are reimbursed and the cost of her fifth surgery is also borne by the govt,” the chairperson added.
