Dumka: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat on Saturday said the party will prominently raise the plight of families displaced by the Pachuara coal mine in Pakur district at its mega rally in New Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Mar 24.Karat, who was in Dumka, claimed that the tribal families displaced by the mining project, located in Pakur district, have been living in miserable conditions for years and the promises made to them have not been fulfilled.Brinda said, “Even the state-owned public sector companies engaged in coal mining do not lag behind private companies when it comes to denying the legitimate rights of the displaced lot, largely comprising tribals and other marginal communities.”Alleging that land had been acquired for the project in Dumka district with prior intimation to the raiyyats, the former Rajya Sabha MP said a survey, conducted by a New Delhi based agency on the mine, to the district administrations of Pakur and Dumka.Karat said the Mar 24 rally, which has been named Jan Sangharsh Rally, was a culmination of Jan Sagharsh Yatras which were organised across the states to mobilise the people against the Centre’s anti-people measures, including the scrapping of MGNREGA, bringing in new labour codes and the trade deal with US.
