New Delhi: A 22-year-old man was crushed under a train while chasing a snatcher who stole his phone at Shahdara railway station on Friday afternoon, police said.The man who died was identified as Rohit Kumar of Baroth village in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district. He worked as a security guard at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital and had come to Shahdara station to take a train home.
Kumar was on platform 3 when someone snatched his phone. The guard started chasing the snatcher.While chasing the snatcher, Kumar stepped on the tracks and was run over by a passing train — the 15035 Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express, which runs daily from Old Delhi to KathgodamPolice said they got a PCR call around 4.53 pm. A team rushed to the spot and found Kumar seriously injured on the tracks. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Police said CCTV footage from the station was being examined to identify the snatcher and understand the sequence of events.
