Mysuru: Karnataka govt sanctioned two police stations–one each for Mysuru and Chamarajanagar on Friday. Chief minister Siddaramaiah announced in the budget that 12 police stations will be opened in Karnataka, including two in south Karnataka. Mysuru got a police station in Udayagiri South police station, while Chamarajanagar got a traffic police station for Gundlupet.Chamarajanagar SP M Muthuraj said that the new traffic police station will help them manage vehicular movement in Gundlupet, which witnesses nearly 200 road accidents, including non-fatal ones, every year. The Gundlupet traffic station will have jurisdiction over three law and order police stations–Terakanambi, Beguar and Gundlupet.
Commissioner of police, Mysuru city, Seema Latkar, said the new police station was proposed to tackle law and order situations, and to control crime rates in the northeast of Mysuru. The existing Udayagiri police station jurisdiction was bifurcated into north and south police stations.To a query about setting up an Anti-Narcotics Task Force, the commissioner said a notification has been issued by the DGP in this regard, and soon measures will be taken up accordingly. Presently, the deputy commissioner of police is the nodal officer for the anti-narcotics force in the city.
