Kanpur: The Banda police have finally nailed a fugitive who had been on the run for 30 years in a dacoity case. Police station in-charge Suresh Kumar Saini said that a case was filed against Munawwar (77), a resident of Syoda village in the Girwan police station area, in 1988. He was among 12 individuals who were named in the FIR and arrested for stealing a large quantity of iron during railway maintenance work in the Mataundha area. The case went to the Allahabad HC. Of the 12 accused, 10 died during the course of the hearing. Another accused is out on bail.Munawwar had managed to flee from custody 30 years back. According to reports, the accused sold his house and property in Banda years ago and relocated to Madhya Pradesh, where he lived in disguise to conceal his identity.Police had announced a bounty of Rs 20,000 on his arrest and formed several teams to track him. The HC had also issued a non-bailable warrant against him.Acting on a tip-off, Girwan police arrested the accused late Tuesday after tracking him down near the Ken River bridge in Syodha village, Banda.
