Bengaluru: Lokayukta police Thursday arrested a sanitary dafedar (cleaner) attached to Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for accepting Rs 10,000-bribe from an electrical contractor.The accused, M Nagaraj, 39, is posted at the Kaval Byrasandra office of Bengaluru North city corporation.
The complainant, Abdul Rehman, 49, a resident of RT Nagar, had taken up a contract from an apartment to shift a transformer in Kaval Byrasandra. On Feb 26, he used a chipping machine to dig a road as part of the work to remove the transformer.According to police, Nagaraj allegedly seized the chipping machine from the work site without authorisation. He initially threatened to book a case against Rehman and impose a fine through the corporation. Later, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000, promising not to initiate any case and to return the seized machine. Rehman reportedly paid Rs 10,000 and approached Lokayukta police when Nagaraj began demanding the remaining Rs 10,000. Acting on the complaint, a team led by deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Mallikarjun CS laid a trap and caught Nagaraj while accepting the cash.
