Jaipur: The health dept has administered Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to 500 girls in the first five days of launching its cervical cancer prevention drive. While the initial response has been encouraging, several districts are still streamlining vaccination logistics, including identification of session sites, ensuring vaccine supply, and coordinating staff and reporting systems. The dept is also stepping up awareness efforts to widen coverage and counter doubts surrounding the vaccine.A senior official said misinformation and lack of awareness could deter families from getting eligible girls vaccinated. “The HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers among women in the country. Addressing public concerns is crucial for the program’s success,” the official said.To address queries, health officials and public health experts will conduct interactive sessions on social media across districts Thursday. In Sikar, a dedicated platform will allow experts to respond directly to questions on HPV infection, vaccine safety, eligibility and benefits.Under the program, a single vaccine dose is being given to girls who have completed 14 years but are yet to turn 15. Officials said nearly 99.7% of cervical cancer cases are linked to HPV. The dept estimates that around 8.32 lakh girls in Rajasthan are eligible for vaccination annually.
