Kolar: Five members of a family from Bengaluru were killed after their car crashed into the rear of a truck near YSR Junction in Gangavaram mandal, Andhra Pradesh, Wednesday morning. They were on their way to Tirumala for darshan.Police said the car got stuck behind the truck and the vehicle was dragged for 40–50 metres before the truck came to a halt.
The victims are Mohan Das, 71, Nagaraja Rao, 61, Kusuma, 61, Jayanthi, 59, and Pooja, 33, from Rajajinagar in west Bengaluru. Police said Mohan was driving at the time of the accident.The truck driver claimed he was travelling at 40 kmph and was unaware that the car had crashed into his vehicle. “After covering some distance, passersby alerted me and I stopped the truck. That’s when I saw the car stuck behind my vehicle,” the driver told police.Circle inspector Ram Bhoopal of Gangavaram said preliminary investigation suggested the car was travelling at a speed of 130 kmph, with the speedometer reportedly frozen at that mark after the crash. Gangavaram police registered a case and informed the victims’ relatives in Bengaluru. Further investigation is under way to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
