Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao said that frequent transfers of IAS officers and district collectors are adversely impacting governance, alleging that the Congress govt has carried out massive reshuffles at least five times over the past two years. Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, he said chief minister A Revanth Reddy had failed to effectively govern the state, and that his inefficacy had become evident over the past two years.“Department heads are not even serving an average tenure of eight months. In Singareni, GHMC, I&PR, school education, Aarogya Sri, Panchayati Raj, municipal administration, IT, and other departments, four officials were transferred without completing even one year,” Harish Rao said.He added that it takes at least six months for a collector to gain an understanding of the district. “There are several collectors who were transferred within six months. Transferring collectors, especially young officers, is damaging their morale,” the former minister said. Harish further stated that the chief secretary is currently holding the additional charge of IT secretary, and questioned how he could effectively discharge the responsibilities of the IT department while managing his primary duties. On the extension of service to retired officers, Harish said that a dozen IAS and IPS officers had been granted extensions, and that hundreds of engineers were being given tenure extensions. “The same Congress leaders criticised service extensions during the BRS regime. In the engineering department, retired officers occupying key positions are leading to increased corruption. Due to frequent transfers of officers, the state is not even receiving awards,” he alleged.
