Ahmedabad: Ahead of Holi, around 3 lakh passengers travelled from Ahmedabad and Gandhidham stations over three days starting Feb 27, railway officials said. In the Ahmedabad division, special trains were operated for three days from Feb 27 from Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Asarwa, Gandhidham and Bhuj.Data showed about 1.55 lakh passengers boarded from Ahmedabad, 70,000 from Sabarmati, 30,000 from Asarva, 30,000 from Gandhidham and 15,500 from Bhuj.Anticipating higher footfall, Western Railway announced 308 trips of special trains. Services were operated to destinations including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Danapur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Bhagat Ki Kothi (Jodhpur), Haridwar, Raxaul, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Delhi.To manage crowds, the railway increased public announcements, updated electronic display boards, deployed staff for passenger guidance, added reservation counters and ticketing facilities, set up holding areas with basic amenities, strengthened RPF and ticket-checking presence, monitored sensitive stations through CCTV, and tracked punctuality and safe boarding and deboarding at platforms, foot overbridges and entry-exit points.
