Bengaluru: After a prolonged tussle, the transport dept renewed Uber’s aggregator licence, clearing the way for the ride-hailing platform to continue operations in the state. In a statement, Uber said Karnataka State Transport Authority (KSTA) renewed its licence under Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Aggregator Rules, 2016. The renewed licence is valid for five years, from Dec 31, 2021 to Dec 30, 2026.Responding to questions about the retrospective nature of the renewal, officials explained that Uber initially applied for licence in 2016. Following court intervention, licence was granted covering the period from 2016 to 2021. After its expiry, the company once again approached the authorities for renewal. “The latest renewal comes after sustained follow-up by Uber with the dept,” a source said.
