Surat: The departments of biosciences and fine arts at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) have documented the biodiversity of the university campus through a five-day photography initiative, culminating in the release of a book showcasing the findings.During the exercise, students photographed more than 50 species of insects, 20 species of birds, and around 40 varieties of flora and medicinal plants found on the lush green campus. The activity was conducted under the guidance of faculty members.Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut on Tuesday launched the book titled “Capturing Campus Biodiversity” in the presence of VNSGU vice-chancellor Kishorsinh Chavda. The publication features photographs along with details on the species, their rarity and ecological importance.Addressing the gathering, Gahlaut shared his knowledge of wildlife and his experience in wildlife photography. He encouraged students to develop the habit of documenting observations.The initiative was guided by Prof Kailash Patel of the department of biosciences and Prof Ankit M Changawala of the department of fine arts. The faculty members emphasised the scientific significance of biodiversity mapping and digital record maintenance, while also integrating artistic perspectives to enhance the visual and aesthetic quality of the publication.
