Ahmedabad: A Gandhinagar sessions court denied regular bail to suspended police inspector of CID Crime, Pethabhai Patel, in connection with the bribery case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Patel, along with an armed police constable, Vipul Desai, was caught by the ACB sleuths while allegedly accepting Rs 30 lakh on Dec 15, 2025. Since then, he has been behind bars. He sought regular bail after the investigating agency filed a chargesheet against him. He contended that the case against him was mainly based on documentary evidence, the police probe was over, and that there was no question of his tampering with evidence now.Opposing the plea, the govt pleader told the court that Patel and the constable had demanded Rs 3 crore from the complainant, later settling for Rs 30 lakh. After hearing the arguments, additional sessions judge P M Unadkat said, “The applicant, who was discharging his duty as a police inspector with the CID Crime, demanded a huge amount of bribe and later accepted Rs 30 lakh in bribe. Considering such a serious allegation, it does not appear appropriate and justified to release the applicant on bail.”
