Akola: The 100-year-old Holi Dahan tradition at the Rani Sati Dham Mandir in Akola is known for its distinctive and eco-friendly practices. Instead of wood logs, coconuts offered throughout the year, cow-dung cakes and dry wood collected from castor plants within the temple premises are used for Holi Dahan. According to the temple committee, the ritual was performed in presence of thousands of devotees on the evening of Phalgun Purnima after special prayers. Temple trustee Vasant Bachhuka told TOI that the main purpose behind the tradition is to ensure that today’s youth remain connected with our history, our mythological heritage and the deeper values of religion and spirituality. Local residents said that Holi Dahan at the temple has become an integral part of Akola’s cultural identity.
