Gandhinagar: An annual report of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) for 2023-24, which was tabled in the Gujarat assembly last week, said that until March 2024, 95.9% of irrigation potential (IP) was created.According to the report, against the total envisaged IP of 17.92 lakh hectares through the Narmada canal network, 17.21 lakh hectares of IP was achieved.“A vast canal network comprising the main canal, branch canals, distributaries, minors and sub-minors is in its advanced stage of completion. Out of the total estimated length of the canal network of 69,829km, works of 63,807km were completed up to the end of March 2024,” the report said.Elaborating, the report said that 100% of the length of the main canal, 99% of the length of branch canals (2,679km completed out of 2,680km), 96% of distributaries (4,471km completed out of 4,633km), 93% of minors (14,591km completed out of 15,665km) and 89% of sub-minors (41,605km out of 46,346km) were completed up to March 2024.The report added that SSNNL also supplies water to civic bodies and industries as part of its operations. Through the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Gujarat Water Infrastructure Limited, 10,453 villages and 190 towns are covered through pipelines.In addition, SSNNL supplies water to Vadodara Municipal Corporation, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and other municipal corporations through GWSSB. It also supplies water to industries, the report added.
