Buxar: District officials on Monday reviewed plans for the proposed Centre of Excellence (CoE) for tomato, potato and onion crops at a meeting chaired by DM Sahila at the collectorate. Senior Netherlands scientist Tjaart Hofman, on a technical visit, examined the project’s feasibility and discussed the implementation roadmap following the Centre’s announcement selecting Buxar for the CoE. Following the announcement made by PM Narendra Modi on Feb 24, 2025, Buxar district was selected for the establishment of the CoE. During the meeting, several key components of the proposed centre were highlighted as advanced farming techniques and introduction of modern practices such as off-season vegetable production, poly house cultivation and drip irrigation to enhance yield and ensure sustainable farming.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost horticultural development in the district and enhance farmers’ income through technology-driven interventions.
