In view of the recent developments in the Middle East, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that while the right of citizens to peacefully express their views through lawful means is respected, incidents of rioting, stone-pelting, clashes and disruption of public order reported at some places are not acceptable.
In a statement, police said violence, destruction of property and confrontation with security forces result in injuries, loss of life, imposition of restrictions, closure of educational institutions and cause severe hardship to families, traders, students and daily wagers.
Police appealed to all sections of society to exercise restraint and refrain from violence and provocation in the larger interest of peace and public order.
The statement warned that strict legal action will be taken against instigators and miscreants involved in unlawful activities, adding that authorities remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the protection of life and property.
