Vadodara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Sunday arrested a police sub-inspector (PSI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in return for a favourable police opinion on land transaction approvals under the Disturbed Areas Act.The accused was identified as Pankajkumar Patel, a PSI (Class-III) attached to Khambhat City police station and currently deputed at Lal Darwaza Police Chowki.According to ACB officials, the complainant and his business partner owned land in Khambhat city and had allotted plots on it. As the land fell under the Disturbed Areas Act category, they applied to the prant office in Khambhat for permission to carry out the transaction. The application was subsequently forwarded to Khambhat City police station for a mandatory police opinion, and Patel was assigned to examine the case and submit his report.During discussions related to two applications submitted for approval, the PSI allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 per application, totalling Rs 30,000, in return for issuing a favourable report.Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB office in Anand and lodged a complaint.Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Sunday near Lal Darwaza Police Chowki. During the operation, the accused allegedly reiterated his demand and accepted the amount from the complainant, following which the ACB team apprehended him red-handed and recovered the bribe amount.A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
