Kanpur: A riot drill exercise led by DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Shrivastava was conducted on Sunday at the Reserve Police Line here, to maintain peace, communal harmony and law and order in view of the upcoming festivals of Holika Dahan, Holi and Eid.The exercise focused on quick response drills to deal with potential emergency situations and ensure effective management of law and order in the district. Police officers and personnel from all police stations of the Central Zone participated in the training, which was conducted according to the Standard Operating Procedure for riot control.During the drill, a phased demonstration was carried out covering crowd control techniques, area cordoning, identification of miscreants and procedures for arrests under the legal process. Personnel also practised the safe and controlled use of riot-control equipment, including tear gas, rubber bullets, body protectors, helmets, shields and other protective gear.Training was also given on maintaining coordination through the wireless communication system, sharing information quickly and ensuring prompt compliance with the directives of senior officers. Officials issued guidelines for maintaining special vigilance in sensitive and mixed-population areas and emphasised the importance of preserving communal harmony during the festive season.All SHOs ere directed to strengthen coordination with peace committees in their respective areas and ensure regular patrolling and flag marches.The DCP said maintaining peace and law and order during the festivals was the top priority.
