Jaipur: Rajasthan’s discoms fared poorly in most parameters in the annual rankings for 2023-24, recently released by ministry of power.Ajmer, Jaipur and Jodhpur discoms came at 28, 30, and 32, positions, respectively, among 42 state-owned discoms that were rated.In fact, Jaipur and Jodhpur transmission and distribution losses were among the highest, coming at 20.8% and 28.8%, respectively. Performance of discoms, Ajmer and Jaipur, were worse than the previous ranking which invited a downgrade status.Report revealed that average technical and commercial (AT&T) losses of Jaipur discom increased from 14.6% in 2022-23 to 20.8% in 2023-24. Similarly, its collection efficiency has declined from 100% to 94%. There are several metrics on which the discom’s performance deteriorated in 2023-24.Ajmer discom too saw its AT&T losses shooting up to 15.5% in 2023-24, compared 10% in the previous year. Collection efficiency dropped to 94.8% from 100% during the comparable period.However, Jodhpur discom’s AT&T losses witnessed the highest surge, rising from 21% to 28.7% in 2023-24. Collection efficiency too plunged from 100% to 93%.Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Ajmer discoms scored 43.1, 51.3, and 61.4 respectively, out of 100 securing B- grade.DD Agrawal, director at Samta Power, a sectoral NGO, said, “Despite several claims of bringing efficiency to Power sector, the results pain a different picture. The got should discuss the report at the highest level and find solutions.”
