Namakkal: A Class X student drowned while bathing in the Cauvery River at Samayasangili near Pallipalayam on Sunday.The deceased has been identified as Jeeva, 15, son of Chinnadurai, a construction worker from Agraharam in Erode district. Six students, including Jeeva, had gone to bathe in the river. While bathing, Jeeva went deeper drowned. His fellow students raised an alarm, and locals attempted to rescue him, but their efforts were in vain. They eventually informed the Pallipalayam police and the fire department. Jeeva’s body was found after a four-hour search. “Investigation revealed that Jeeva did not know to swim,” said a police officer from Pallipalayam station. Police sent the body to the govt hospital for a postmortem.A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.
