Dibrugarh: Union MoS for external affairs Pabitra Margherita on Sunday voiced concern over the safety of Indian nationals, who are staying abroad, following a military escalation after coordinated strikes by the US and Israel on Iran resulted in the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Speaking to reporters in Majuli, Margherita said the MEA and relevant authorities were closely monitoring the situation to ensure security of Indian citizens travelling or residing their.“In view of the situation unfolding in West Asia, particularly after the strikes on Iran, the MEA is observing the entire scenario with vigilance, keeping a keen eye on the developments. Instructions have already been issued for the protection and assistance of students, tourists and all Indians, who are currently abroad,” he said.The Union minister urged Indian nationals, especially students and travellers in the affected regions, to remain in close contact with Indian missions and follow all safety advisories issued by the govt. He assured that genuine cases of distress will be addressed with all possible support through official govt channels.“Our priority is the safety and well-being of Indians abroad,” Margherita said, adding that in times of uncertainty, accurate information and coordinated support were crucial.He also made a direct appeal for calm among communities in Assam with family ties in West Asia, stressing that all official channels were actively working to ensure prompt assistance.“In these times of uncertainty, accurate information and coordinated support are crucial,” he reiterated.The remarks come in the wake of Operation Epic Fury — a joint US-Israeli military campaign targeting Iranian nuclear and military installations — which struck Tehran, Natanz and other strategic locations, causing significant destruction and plunging the region into a volatile and uncertain security environment.
