Bengaluru: East Division police recovered around 641 stolen mobile phones, worth Rs 1.6 crore, between Jan and Feb 28, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). The recovered phones were returned to their owners on Saturday at Indiranagar during the monthly public grievance meeting, presided over by police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.Police said CEIR is a software tool that detects the use of stolen mobile phones through their IMEI and sim card numbers.As part of a special operation, East Division police coordinated across multiple stations — including Halasuru, Byappanahalli, Indiranagar, Banaswadi, Hennur, Govindapura, DJ Halli, KG Halli, Ramamurthynagar, JB Nagar, Pulakeshinagar, Bharathi Nagar, Commercial Street, and Shivajinagar — to trace and recover the 641 stolen devices.
