Shimla: Shimla Urban sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Oshin Sharma has been issued a warning after videos surfaced showing her allegedly promoting a private company’s fitness products on her social media accounts.Chief secretary Sanjay Gupta has directed Shimla deputy commissioner Anupam Kashyap to caution Sharma against engaging in such activities in future. The matter came to the attention of the chief secretary on Friday, who instructed an investigation into whether Sharma’s posts violated Rule 15(1) of the Civil Services Conduct Rules and whether her alleged promotion amounted to endorsement for monetary gain.
Following public criticism, the 2020-batch Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS) officer, Sharma, initially removed the promotional posts and later also deactivated her social media handles, which have a significant number of followers. In Nov last year, Sharma had filed a police complaint at New Shimla women’s police station over a fake Facebook profile of her that allegedly shared objectionable artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images.
