Thiruvananthapuram: In the run-up to Attukal Pongala scheduled for Tuesday, an awareness campaign promoting strict adherence to green protocol was launched in the capital on Saturday. An LED display vehicle of the Suchitwa Mission, displaying guidelines for drinking water and food distributors, voluntary organisations and devotees, was flagged off by mayor V V Rajesh and Attukal Temple trust president V Shobha. The initiative aims to ensure that the festival is conducted in an environmentally responsible manner. The campaign vehicle will travel across various parts of the city, screening awareness videos and displaying key instructions related to waste management and hygiene. The messages highlight the importance of strictly following green norms, including proper waste disposal, a total ban on plastic use and segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at source. Officials said the initiative is intended to sensitise stakeholders and the public well in advance, so that large-scale participation in the festival does not result in environmental degradation. The authorities urged devotees and service providers to cooperate in making the festival a model green event.
