Varanasi: Govt Railway Police unit of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction in Chandauli district held two persons with Rs 1.75 crore recovered from their bags, in the wee-hours of Saturday. The two persons were intercepted in A-I Coach of Akaltakht Express when it arrived around 2.41 am. Income tax officials were called to investigate the matter.GRP deputy superintendent of police (Varanasi) Kunwar Prabhat Singh said a joint team led by GRP PDDU Junction in charge Sunil Kumar Singh and RPF inspector Pradeep Kumar Rawat were carrying out a check in view of the huge festival crowd. In coach A-1 of Akal Takht Express, two persons behaved suspiciously on seeing police. GRP and RPF personnel questioned them and when their bags were checked, Rs 1.75 crore was recovered from their possession.After ascertaining their identity as Ritesh Patel (38) of Thakurganj, Lucknow and Pragnesh Patel (43) of Anand, Gujarat, police questioned them about the cash, but both failed to provide any document in support of the cash. Officials called officials of the income tax department from Varanasi for legal action.
