New Delhi: Thousands of girls in Delhi will become ‘lakhpatis’ on March 2, when the govt disburses the maturity amount under the Delhi Ladli Scheme, 2008, at an event where several new women-centric schemes will also be launched. A total of Rs 100 crore will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of 40,642 girls whose Ladli accounts have matured. Chief minister Rekha Gupta said in a post on X that President Droupadi Murmu will attend the event. “Under the ‘My Capital, My Right’ scheme, Rs 100 crore will be transferred to the accounts of 40,642 girls. Saheli Pink Smart Card will be launched to enable free bus travel for women. Ahead of Holi, free LPG cylinder scheme costing Rs 128 crore will be launched. Delhi Lakhpati Beti Yojana will also be inaugurated,” she said. Ladli Scheme, launched in 2008, provides financial support to the girl child through deposits linked to key educational stages. The amount accrues interest and matures when the beneficiary either completes Class XII and turns 18, or completes graduation or a diploma and turns 21. Officials said maturity amounts vary because many beneficiaries enrolled later rather than at birth. The detailed breakup was not immediately available. .
