Madikeri: The Kodagu district police has arrested four accused in connection with the attack on a right-wing activist, Appachira Gautham Cariappa of Dodda Pulikot village at Napoklu, on Friday.Kodagu SP Bindu Mani said the injured, Gautham, is being treated at the District Hospital in Madikeri. The accused were arrested and produced before a local court, which handed them over to judicial custody on Saturday, she added.
The accused are Suhail PH, 24, of Karekadu, KE Siddique, 20, of Bethu village, PM Nafi, 19, of Napoklu, and PA Rashid, 30, of Napoklu.On Friday evening, right-wing organisations blocked roads at Napoklu protesting against the assault on the activist, who was campaigning at Napoklu regarding the Hindu Sangama programme, which lead to tension. Police officers, including the DSP, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The SP visited Napoklu on Saturday, even as security was beefed up in Napoklu and surrounding areas. The situation is peaceful, police said.Meanwhile, the Hindu Sangama event was held peacefully in the town.
