Dhanbad: BJP rebel candidate Sanjeev Singh won the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation mayoral post, defeating JMM-backed nominee Chandrashekhar Agarwal.Congress-supported candidate Shamsher Alam finished in third place, while BJP-backed nominee Sanjeev Kumar was fourth.
Addressing supporters after the results were announced, Singh described his victory as “blessing of the people of Dhanbad”. He thanked voters for placing their faith in him and said he would strive to fulfil public expectations. “The people gave me the honour of serving as mayor. I am grateful to them and will work according to their aspirations,” he said.He assured citizens that he would dedicate himself to public service, continuing what he described as his family’s long-standing tradition of serving the people.A former MLA from Jharia, Singh remains an influential political figure in the region. His wife, Ragini Singh, is the BJP MLA from Jharia. His father, late Surya Dev Singh, and mother, Kunti Singh, also previously represented Jharia as legislators.Political observers said Singh’s victory reflected both his personal influence and voter dissatisfaction with party-backed candidates. The emphatic mandate is expected to have wider implications for local party dynamics.
