Bengaluru: Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao directed department officials to monitor the functioning of IVF centres in Bengaluru following the recent busting of an alleged egg trafficking racket in Maharashtra. The directive comes after authorities in Badlapur, Maharashtra, uncovered an illegal network involving unethical stimulation, extraction and sale of human eggs. Three women were arrested in connection with the case, and preliminary investigation revealed at least 40 women were allegedly exploited as part of the racket.Rao told media that during the course of investigation, possible links to Bengaluru had been mentioned. “If embryos or eggs are being extracted unethically, it amounts to a clear violation of Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. I have instructed officials to keep a strict watch on IVF centres in the city,” he said.
