Jaipur: The education department Friday said that 37,696 govt schools, including both elementary and secondary education, will be issued land leases under a special campaign to provide them with ownership rights. Out of the 37,696 schools, there are 27,720 elementary schools and 9,976 secondary schools. Chief secretary V Srinivas had issued an order Monday in this regard to all district collectors.“The State Govt is committed to strengthening school education. A large number of govt schools in the state operated on their own land for years but do not have a lease. The lack of land ownership hinders the implementation of govt schemes and poses challenges to the protection of public land or the possibility of encroachment,” said an official release issued by education minister Madan Dilawar’s office Friday. “Issuing leases will be a concrete step towards protecting public property. If school land is protected, the school’s future will be secure,” added the release. The chief secretary’s letter written to district collectors mentioned that district administrations can work with officers from the revenue department, education department, department of local self govt, and panchayati raj institutions to ensure that cases are disposed of expeditiously on the same day to the maximum extent possible.
