Ahmedabad: The Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School filed another petition in Gujarat high court, this time challenging the show-cause notice issued by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) asking why its land lease deed should not be cancelled. The notice was issued in Nov 2025 after the civic body came to know about the alleged breach of conditions on which the land parcel in Khokhra was leased out to the school trust, India Financial Association of Seventh Day Adventist, for 99 years in 2003 to run a school. This happened after the death of 15-year-old Class 10 student, Nayan Santani, who was stabbed by a junior student and succumbed a day later last Aug. The civic body came to know about various educational institutions being run in the buildings erected on the leased land. The show-cause notice was issued to the trust on the grounds that the trust was not running all the schools. The AMC’s show-cause notice reportedly stated that the plot was being used by three different educational bodies: primary education by Ashlok Education Society; secondary and higher secondary education by The Council of Seventh Day Adventist Education Institutions; and college-level education by the same council. None of these activities were being directly run by the trust to which the plot was leased. The school’s advocate submitted before the court that AMC did not have the authority to terminate the lease by citing breach of lease conditions.AMC’s counsel sought time to address the court, and the HC posted the hearing on March 3.
