Gurgaon: Educrest International School’s attempt to “adjust” 11 Class 10 students into other institutions after failing to secure their CBSE admit cards has come under scanner. According to police, Educrest first tried to enrol them in a Delhi school and later at one in Palwal, but both efforts collapsed and left the children unable to sit for the CBSE board exams. The Delhi option, police said, failed because the school they approached had itself lost affiliation. Educrest then tried to shift the students to a school in Palwal, but that institution could not complete the enrolment process in time or get the students registered for the CBSE Class 10 examinations. With the exam window closing, the 11 students could not write their CBSE paper. Nine of 11 parents moved Punjab and Haryana high court, which allowed their children to write the Haryana Board papers. So, the students, who studied the CBSE syllabus through the year, now have to write the state boards. “The owner of the school, Vinay Kataria, is untraceable and has not joined the investigation despite multiple notices. We will arrest him soon. Then, a detailed probe will be conducted to ascertain where the other students took admissions or what exactly happened,” a police officer said.Sources said Educrest had applied for CBSE affiliation for classes 9 and 10 about two years ago, but the district education officer rejected the file.“The school applied again. Now, it has got CBSE affiliation for classes 9 and 10 from April 1, meaning it has registration for the next session,” the officer said, adding that police are yet to fully check records as personnel are also deployed for board exam security.Cops said Educrest’s fee details are still being ascertained, but the students were charged around Rs 5,000 a month, according to sources. Despite lack of affiliation, the school collected fees in advance, and depended on informal arrangements with CBSE-affiliated schools to obtain admit cards. On Feb 18, an FIR was registered at Sector-9A police station against chairperson Kataria, principal Riddhima Kataria, vice-principal Nidhi Batra and coordinator Sonia for cheating and false claims of CBSE affiliation. No arrests have been made so far.
