Kanpur: An eight-hour daily mega block will be effective on Lucknow-Kanpur rail route from April 2 to May 13 for repair of down track (Kanpur to Lucknow) of the railway bridge over the Ganga at Shuklaganj (Gangaghat/Kanpur left bank).Lucknow Rail Division’s public relations officer Sushil Jaiswal said that under the repair work iron sheets and sleepers in the down line of the 118-year-old Ganga bridge would be replaced and H-beams would be installed. The bridge, located between Kanpur Murray Company and Kanpur left bank station (Gangaghat), was constructed in 1908.The repair work will take 42 days, from April 2 to May 13. During this period, 14 trains running between Kanpur and Lucknow will be cancelled, 10 trains will be operated only up to Kanpur, and 31 trains will be diverted to other routes. Routes and timings of 31 trains will also be changed and 14 will operated only up to Kanpur.Railway DRM’s PRO said that Railway’s audit team and chief engineer had been auditing it at prescribed time intervals. In 2025 track repair was carried out on the up line (Lucknow to Kanpur) by taking a mega block from March 20 to April 30. tnn
