Kolkata: By noon today, electors in Bengal will know if they are still eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming assembly polls. At the end of nearly four months of a fraught special intensive revision, the state’s final voters’ list will be released online around noon. The final roll will have all the 7.08 crore names that featured on the draft SIR list but around 66 lakh will be marked either ‘deleted’ or ‘under adjudication’. Election Commission sources said close to 6 lakh names that have been struck off by EROs/AEROs during disposal of cases will be marked as ‘deleted’ while over 60 lakh names will be marked as ‘under adjudication’.In light of publication of the electoral roll, as well as Dol Yatra/Holi, the state administration on Friday asked police to be on high alert.“The voters’ list went to print this morning. It will be published online by noon tomorrow. Any elector can check his/her name by searching their EPIC number on the EC or CEO website and ECINET app. Physical lists will be available at the offices of BDO, SDO and DM/DEO,” Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal said on Friday. “If electors want to check their names on the physical list, they will have to visit or send a representative to the BDO, SDO or DM/DEO offices,” he added. The CEO said they don’t apprehend the EC website crashing because multiple servers have been deployed to host the lists.Eight registered political parties will receive the full electoral roll on pen drives from the CEO’s office. At the district level, DEOs will provide two hard copies of the district’s electoral roll to the political parties. Asked if the list will be displayed at polling booths, Agarwal said there is “no such legal provision”. He also clarified that BLOs will not receive hard copies of the electoral roll. For electors in Kolkata North and Kolkata South parliamentary constituencies, hard copies of the electoral roll will be available at Kolkata North DEO’s office at Jessop Building and Kolkata South DEO’s office at Alipore.
