Mandya: Mandya zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini issued instructions to officials to take proactive measures to prevent drinking water shortages during the upcoming summer months.Chairing the district water and sanitation committee meeting, she directed executive officers of all taluk panchayats and engineers of the rural drinking water and sanitation department to identify villages vulnerable to water scarcity and initiate timely preventive action. She stressed that ensuring an adequate supply of safe and quality drinking water to every village must be treated as a top priority.According to officials, 239 villages in the district were identified as potentially vulnerable this summer. Of these, arrangements are being made to secure private borewells in 206 villages, while tanker supply plans were finalised for the remaining 33 villages. The CEO instructed officials to remain fully prepared with contingency plans to handle any emergency situation.The CEO directed all gram panchayats to conduct water quality testing in every village using Field Test Kits (FTK). In cases where water is found unfit for consumption, immediate steps must be taken to supply safe water from alternative sources without delay.Ensure functioning of drinking water unitsShe also ordered that all Pure Drinking Water Units established in the district must remain operational. If any unit develops a fault, the concerned agency must be informed immediately for repairs. In villages where units were handed over to GPs, responsible officers must personally ensure their proper functioning.Further, taluk panchayat executive officers were instructed to monitor the quality of works under the Jal Jeevan Mission and identify active Neerugantis in each gram panchayat, providing them with proper training in operation and maintenance of water supply systems.
