Nagpur: In a major breakthrough in its campaign against drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Unit, has seized 1,251kg of ganja valued at 6.25 crore in two significant operations along the Odisha-Central India corridor. A total of four individuals, including the key mastermind, have been arrested.In the first operation, DRI officials intercepted a pickup van travelling from the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border towards Madhya Pradesh. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 53 packets of ganja weighing 729kg, concealed beneath sacks of raw ginger. The consignment is valued at 3.64 crore. Two individuals were arrested in this action, one of whom is the prime accused. In an earlier operation, DRI teams intercepted a truck at the Bhagimahari toll plaza on National Highway-47. The vehicle was found to be carrying 522kg of ganja hidden behind coolers, table fans and blankets. This consignment was valued at 2.61 crore, and two accused were arrested.The DRI’s consecutive operations have dealt a severe blow to inter-state narcotics networks. These actions have significantly disrupted the supply of ganja from the Odisha border to various parts of the country. Officials have described the crackdown as a major step forward in the Government of India’s vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’.
