Patna: The Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday night arrested a criminal Deva Gupta, carrying a bounty of Rs1 lakh, from an apartment in Patliputra police station area.Gupta is the husband of Motihari mayor Preeti Kumari and he had contested assembly election from RJD ticket in 2025.Gupta, a native of Motihari, is linked to 28 serious cases, including murder, extortion, and land grabbing, and he was evading in two cases.East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat had declared him a notorious criminal and announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.Earlier, Gopalganj SP had prepared a list of 100 criminals for crime control in the district. The list that had Gupta’s name on the top was sent to the DIG for approval.“The arrest of Gupta is being considered a major success for the police and administration, as he was active in criminal activities despite being connected to an influential political background. The STF and local police are now interrogating him to gather information about his network and other absconding associates,” said a statement issued by the STF.
