Bokaro: BJP MLA from Bokaro, Shwettaa Singh, on Wednesday raised the issue of alleged police high-handedness during voting for the Chas Municipal Corporation elections on Monday.Raising the matter in the assembly, she claimed that former ward councillor Ramashankar Singh and his wife Rekha Devi, a candidate from Ward 32, were subjected to torture and “inhuman treatment”.Calling the action by Bokaro police “anti-democratic”, she demanded a high-level probe and forensic examination of CCTV and drone footage. She alleged that Ramashankar Singh was taken into custody, assaulted and treated “like a criminal” despite having no prior complaints against him.“If there are allegations, the court is there to take cognizance. The police cannot act in such inhuman ways,” she said. The MLA claimed to have seen video footage in which Ramashankar appeared unable to walk properly with clothes torn and signs of injuries. She also said that she would move court, asserting that misuse of uniformed authority would not be tolerated.Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh said, “Ramashankar attempted to disrupt the polling process and challenged lawful authority. Preliminary findings suggest that the candidate and her husband attempted to disrupt polling and assaulted an on-duty officer. Police have lodged an FIR against him after a preliminary inquiry.”
