Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, celebrated its Foundation Day 2026 on Wednesday. Addressing the event, deputy chief minister and the chief guest of the event, Brajesh Pathak, announced an increase in the number of seats in MBBS, PG, and other courses run by the university. Appreciating the efforts to strengthen medical education, rural health services, and trauma management, he assured full support for the overall development of the varsity. Emphasising the establishment of a state-of-the-art 250-bed trauma centre near Lucknow-Agra Expressway, Pathak said that the centre will be fully operated under UPUMS Saifai to provide quick and quality emergency medical services. He also visited the trauma centre and inspected the health facilities there.The programme was presided over by vice-chancellor Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh. Additional chief secretary of the medical education department Amit Kumar Ghosh, director of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, Dr CM Singh, and MLA of Etawah Sadar Sarita Bhadauria were present as special guests.In his address, the VC gave a detailed account of the university’s achievements, academic and research activities, expansion of modern medical facilities, and efforts to strengthen rural health services. Professors, doctors, and staff members of various departments were honoured for their contributions. Dr CM Singh of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, was also honoured.A Jan Aushadhi Kendra was inaugurated on the campus and an MoU between Bank of India and UPUMS Saifai was also signed on the occasion. The university’s souvenir and newsletter were also released.
