Ahmedabad: The 615th Foundation Day of Ahmedabad city on Thursday will be marked by a number of activities by city-based organisations. In the morning, the officials of Mata Bhadrakali Temple will carry out a grand procession on the route, primarily passing through the historic Walled City areas, to mark the momentous occasion. Palkhi Pujan was carried out on Tuesday, and final touches to the preparations were given on Wednesday to ensure the city’s heritage is showcased with pride. The descendants of Baba Manek Nath will participate in the traditional flag change ceremony at Manek Burj near Ellis Bridge. The bastion is believed to be the spot where the foundation of the city was laid six centuries ago. This symbolic ritual honours the legend of the saint who influenced the construction of the city walls. As Ahmedabad celebrates this milestone, various cultural groups have also planned heritage walks and exhibitions to educate the younger generation about the city’s evolution from a riverside settlement to a thriving modern metropolis.
