Hisar: Nursing students of Khushi Nursing College on Tuesday staged a protest outside the residence of Hansi MLA Vinod Bhayana, demanding migration and allotment to other colleges. The agitation, which began on Feb 13, has now drawn support from farmers, intensifying the stir. Responding to a call given by farmer groups a day earlier, a large number of farmers joined the protest on Monday, giving fresh momentum to the movement. Acting on the call to gherao the MLA’s residence, students and farmers gathered outside his house on Tuesday morning.
After observing a 3-day hunger strike, the protesting students raised slogans against the govt, and reiterated their demand for immediate college allotment following migration. In view of the escalating protest, the administration stepped up security arrangements. SDO Ranbir Malik and SDO Pramod were appointed as duty magistrates to maintain law and order. DSP Vinod Shankar, Hansi SDM Rajesh Khoth, and Narnaund SDM Vikas Yadav reached the spot and held talks with the protesters, urging them to maintain peace. The officials assured the students that the migration and college allotment process would be initiated soon, and that counselling would commence from March 2. However, the protesters continued their demonstration outside the MLA’s residence, insisting on a concrete resolution. Police personnel remained deployed at the site. The students and supporting farmers announced that 11 students and 11 farmers would continue the protest until college allotments are finalised. A farmer leader warned that if the students are not allotted colleges by March 2, they will intensify the agitation by surrounding the MLA’s residence with tractor-trolleys on March 3.
